About Our Association

The YMCA Is A Charity
The federal government recognizes the role the YMCA plays in the community by giving it charitable status. All YMCA programs are charitable because:

  • They focus on the development of people in spirit, mind and body
  • The YMCA exists for community benefit, not personal gain
  • The YMCA is governed by volunteers who receive no remuneration for their services

YMCA of the Brandywine Valley is an Association of 6 regional branches that offer services for children,
families and adults throughout Chester County.

The YMCA is the heart of our community.
People come to the YMCA for the support they need to make a difference in their lives. For many adults and older adults, Y membership opens the doors to discovering energy they never thought they had; for working families, it’s a safe and caring childcare classroom; for middle school teens, it’s a motivating after-school mentoring program.

The YMCA is a catalyst for improved quality of life for people of all ages, races and economic situations. That’s why one out of every 10 people living in Chester County chooses to be members of the YMCA of the Brandywine Valley Association.

The YMCA is a membership organization.
The YMCA is more than a fitness center and a gym. It is a membership organization of people who come together to improve their lives and the lives of those in their community.

YMCA members tell us that the reason they join the Y, or the reason they stay, is because they like being a part of something bigger. The YMCA is a membership organization with a variety of member categories that enable everyone to be part of our family.

Full privilege membership is the best value, giving members full use of the entire YMCA facility. The YMCA also offers a program membership that enables individuals and families to participate in YMCA programs, and an association membership for use of our other YMCA facilities in Chester County.
