Welcome to YMCA summer camp 2008! Below you will find photos and information about the camp counselors who will be helping your children have an absolutely awesome adventure this summer!
YMCA summer camp gives parents the piece of mind that comes from knowing that your child is safe and sound all day with trained and energetic camp counselors that really enjoy spending time with your child. Our full-time, seasoned camp directors have more than 50 years of experience, and take great care in choosing counselors with strong program skills, experience with children in a group setting, and positive character values.
To further ensure our counselors are prepared for the summer, all new and returning staff attend pre-camp training on group management, age-appropriate
program development, positive communication, active listening, and working with special needs children.
We are proud to say that most of our camp staff return year after year.
We hope you have a truly amazing experience this summer.

YMCA Camp Director, Mitch Bernstein, has over 25 years of day camp experience. He holds
a master's degree in Recreation from Springfield College and supervises youth and teen
programming year-round at
the Brandywine Y. Mitch brought half-day enrichment camps to Brandywine Y, and
is looking forward to another exciting summer!

Preschool Camp Director
Betsy Sawicki has been a Brandywine YMCA Nursery School Coordinator and Director for more than 20 years. She supervises
preschool camps during the
summer, and loves working with children and her counselors to develop well-rounded preschool experiences for children ages two to five. |
Jared Parker
Sports Camp Director
Jared has more than 10 years of camp leadership experience, along with ropes course, rock climbing and archery certifications. He holds a bachelor's degree in Leisure Services, and also a YMCA Senior Director Certification. Jared has been directing youth sports and camp at Brandywine YMCA for over a year, and is looking forward to an action-packed summer.

Augie has been with the Kennett Area YMCA since early 2007. He has had more than 14 years of experience leading camp programs in residential and day camp settings bringing an extensive background in Aquatics and Adventure programs. Augie is looking forward to all of the Awesome Adventures the campers will have this summer at the YMCA. |

Kathy joined the YMCA in 2007 as Assistant School Age Child Care Director. She has 6 years of experience in school age and camp programming. She is looking forward to her second summer working Kennett Area YMCA camps.

Nicole joined the YMCA in 2004 as lead teacher for the YMCA's Montessori Preschool Program. Certified as a Montessori teacher she is looking forward to our fourth summer of Montessori Preschool camps.

Linda has been with the YMCA since 1990 and has had over 16 years of experience as a YMCA Camp Director, Preschool Director, and School-Age Childcare Site Director. Linda is looking forward to another summer of helping children make new friends and learn lifelong skills and values.

Rebecca is a certified physical education and health teacher who joined the Kennett Area YMCA in 2006 as the School Age Child Care & Camp Coordinator. She has 4 years of residential YMCA summer camp experience, as both a Sports Camp Director and an Assistant Summer Camp Program Director. Rebecca is looking forward to her third summer working with Kennett Area YMCA Camps.

Tom Gallagher
Kennett Area YMCA Health and Wellness Director
Tom joined the Kennett Area YMCA in 2005 as the Health and Wellness Director and has over 7 years of fitness center management and program development experience. Tom has a degree in Exercise Physiology from Temple University. He has also been the H.I.P. Kids Program Administrator since its inception in January 2005. Tom oversees the H.I.P. Kids and Activate Camps.

Bridgett has been with Octorara since 2001, first as a preschool teacher, and now as the School Age Childcare and Day Camp Director. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University

Preschool & Mini-Camp DirectorJanet has been the Preschool Director and teacher at Octorara YMCA for six years. A graduate of Bob Jones University with a degree in Elementary Education, she now has 14 years of experience with preschool children. Janet is excited about a new adventure at Summer Camp 2007. |

Camp Billers & Day Camp Assistant
Nichole has been with the Octorara YMCA for two years. She started as a preschool teacher, which she loved very much. Now she has been promoted to Assistant Camp Director and Child Care coordinator. Nichole will be organizing our MYSTERY Specialty Camps every week. She loves the summer and is excited for you to come join her at the Octorara YMCA Day Camp!!.

Allison Ingaglio
Day Camp Director
Allison Ingaglio has more than 23 years of childcare and camp
experience and oversees Camp Chippewa and Enrichment Camps. Allison hold a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University and has been on staff at Jennersville YMCA for three years. She is excited about another summer at YMCA camp! In her sparetime she enjoys sewing, reading, being active, and spending time with her family.

Youth Director & Day Camp Director
Doug has been with the Jennersville YMCA since April of 2007 beginning in the childcare department and moving onto working with teen and youth programs as the YMCA's Youth Director. Doug has a government and politics background with a Bachelor's in Government and Political Affairs from Millersville University. In his spare time, he enjoys rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, listening to rock and roll music as well as playing guitar, drums, and bass in social bands. Doug is extemely excited for the awesome adventures at YMCA summer
camp to begin. |

Youth Sports Director / Sports Camp Director
Derek has been with the YMCA for 3 years, with an extensive background in fitness and sports. He is a nationally certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and holds a bachelors degree from Penn State University. Derek is ready for an action-packed summer full of sports thrills, skills, drills, and spills. |
Toni Trainor
Sports Camp Coordinator
Toni has a vast knowledge of sports, having played in both college as well as high school. She has been with the YMCA and summer camp for nearly five years, and holds a degree in Sports Management from Neumann College. Recently, Toni has been promoted to the YMCA's Sports coordinator. She is expecting an action-packed summer with adventure, energy and enthusiasm. |
Kristin Brooks
Fitness Coordinator
Kristin has 11 years experience playing field hockey 4 of which at the collegiate level at Slippery Rock University. She coaches field hockey camp and has coordinated the Sports Performance and Skills Camps for the past 5 years. She has been working at Jennersville YMCA for 7 years as the Fitness Coordinator/Wellness Specialist. Kristin has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology/Fitness Specialist and is pursuing a Nursing Degree. She is very excited and looking forward to teaching the athletes Determination… Dedication... and Commitment for this years summer camp.

Mark DeEmilio
Assistant Camp Director
This will be Mark’s 8th year working with Camp Chippewa at Jennersville YMCA and his second year as part of our Camp Leadership staff. He will be graduating from West Chester University in Fall 2008 with a Physical Education Degree. He enjoys playing sports and staying active.

Stacie Shaffer has been with the West Chester Area YMCA since 1999, serving as Director of Childcare Services. During the summers, Stacie oversees Pioneer Camp for our younger campers. Stacie is looking forward to offering a fun and exciting camp for many for first campers.

Melissa serves as Aquatics Director at the West Chester Area YMCA since ??? Melissa’s previous YMCA experience includes working at a resident YMCA camp in Maine for 5 years. Melissa will be overseeing the Aquatic Adventure Camp and the organization of pool safety and pool time for all of our campers. Melissa is looking forward to campers enjoying their pool time with safety as a top priority
